SHOPPING KIT
Bea's Notes
We bring 5 of these along on our weekly grocery run, to buy meat, fish, cheese. The staff places the items straight into the jar, and deducts the tare from the total price, then affix the price label on the lid. The wide mouth makes it easy for them to slide the items in. When the jar is empty, we throw it in the dishwasher and once clean, we put it in a grocery tote for use the following week.

I use one of these washable crayons to write either my bulk item number straight onto the cloth bag or the tare straight onto my glass jar. I have tested dozens of these types of writing instruments. This is the only one I found to be able write on cloth and glass and completely wash off in cold water. I buy mine by the unit at a local art supply store.

I use laundry mesh bags, but these are even better, being a non-synthetic material. The use of mesh bags for a Zero Waste shopping experience is optional as you could simply use muslin bags but I like the see-through quality of them to purchase, store and see small loose veggies (beans for ex) in my refrigerator produce drawer.
Bea's Notes
We use these to buy table wine from local wine makers (locations can be found in our bulk finder) or to make herb infused water (how-to on my YouTube channel). Where we live, wine gets refilled during bottling events, so the bottles need to be calibrated for the machine (i.e, they need to be 75cl). Instead of buying them new, we reused lemonade bottles, because they are 75cl, and their flip-top caps eliminate the corks. These bottles can be used to buy any liquid in bulk: from laundry detergent, to oils, kombucha, beer, mapple syrup, vinegar, etc.
Bea's Notes
I made mine from old sheets, but these are a great alternative if you do not know how to sew. We use them to buy dry food unpackaged from bulk bins, and food-to-go when we travel (croissant, sandwich, nuts, candy, etc). You can also wet a bag to keep your lettuce fresh longer in the refrigerator!
Bea's Notes
I have been using synthetic laundry hampers since 2008 but these have the advantage of being made of a natural fiber and I love the bottle sleeve feature which makes the bag multi-functional, and can also help keep your jars in place during transport.
